8 ways to become more productive in 2018

The new year is upon us and with it millions of new year’s resolutions, some of which will invariably be followed more than others. If you haven’t picked your target for 2018 yet, then why not aim to simply be more productive?

Working to a fuller capacity won’t only boost your business and output, it’ll also imbue you with fresh confidence because of the new levels you’re able to reach when making the most of your ability. Here’s a few tips that can help you to reach your productivity potential in 2018.

Get more sleep

One of the simplest and easiest ways to become more productive is by getting the right amount of sleep. Your brain will function quicker and you’ll also be in a better mood, both of which will allow you to attack your workload with an enthusiasm and energy that you just don’t get with a 5-or-6-hour sleep.

Take more breaks

Wait, what? That’s right. If you’re forcing yourself to slog through a report you’re likely going to take much more time doing it, so give yourself a quick five-minute break to refresh your mind.

Change your diet

Eating foods that are rich in omega-3 acids like salmon or mackerel are proven to heighten your brainpower, as are nuts, blueberries and avocados. Try adding a few brain-powering superfoods to your diet for a few weeks and watch your productivity levels soar.

Cut down on meetings

Another huge productivity killer is endless meetings. Unless it’s absolutely impossible, try to merge multiple meetings into one or forego them entirely in exchange for emails or quick chats with colleagues.

Drink more water

Proper hydration is essential to brain function, so if you aren’t getting enough water your then your brain won’t be working at its full capacity. Get drinking.

Check your emails in the afternoon

Checking your emails can take up huge wads of time during your most productive hours, so check them later on in the day or during dinner rather than when you first get to work.

Become a gym-goer

Being active clears your mind, increases your focus and boosts your confidence. Start going to the gym with friends or even on your own; exercise is one of the best natural tools at your disposal to boost your productivity.

Focus on one task at a time

Jumping between duties and projects isn’t doing you, or your business, any good. Your brain is still half-thinking about your other job, and as a result you’ll only perform at half your ability on the new task. Aim to give a task your entire attention and finish it off before you move onto something else.
